Call for Proposals
While art represents a vivid site for learning, it also perpetuates and makes visible concurrent systems of oppression and exclusion. As the grounds of inequality shake and shift beneath us, will the arts and education deepen the rifts in society or become our bridge and pathway for the 21st century? How can art education contribute to resolving today’s challenges?
This call for submission to Fault Lines | InSEA World Congress 2023 can be interpreted in a variety of ways, and we welcome traditional and non-traditional submissions. Teachers, artists, museums educators, students, community arts educators, and researchers at all levels are encouraged to submit a presentation or develop a creative workshop.
We are inviting diverse, contemporary projects in art education practice and research that explore fractures and shifts in our lives as educators and artists, that wander along or cross faults and ultimately overcome and consolidate tremors that we experience in the education system and beyond.
We are interested in proposals for papers and other forms of presentations that explore the notion of Fault Lines from a variety of perspectives, proposals might explore issues or questions for example:

Fault Lines | InSEA World Congress 2023
Submission Information
The InSEA2023 World Congress will be held in a hybrid (place-based and virtual) format. While we will be offering opportunities for virtual ZOOM presentations of some sessions, we prefer and encourage you to deliver your proposal in person at the InSEA World Congress 2023 venue.
The official language of the InSEA World Congress 2023 and Congress program will be English. The Congress Committee will provide ONLY simultaneous translation for Turkish and English for the opening ceremony and keynote speeches.
Individual Presentations are expected to run 15 minutes followed by 5 minutes Q&A and will be scheduled in sessions with four presenters.
We encourage Panel submissions! Fully formed panels will receive priority in the scheduling process. What is the difference between Panels and Roundtables? Panelists are authors or co-authors presenting a paper, whereas roundtable participants discuss the proposed topic, which should relate to the Fault Lines congress theme or one of the sub-themes. Panel submissions should contain a maximum of four papers, each paper with full abstract and author information. Panels are guaranteed an 80-minutes slot, for example, in the case of a four paper panel, individual paper presentations are expected to run 15 minutes followed by 5 minutes Q&A. Each panel requires a chair, which can be self-nominated during the submission process.
Summarize your project information or research study in a graphical Poster Presentation (30-45 min) and generate individual interactions. Posters must be printed in A1 size (594 x841 mm/ 23.3 x33.1 in) in portrait/ upright format. The poster presenter(s) will be expected to give a brief introduction (15 min.) and then proceed to answer questions.
Share your innovative work in a fast-paced Pecha Kucha style presentation (6 minutes!) with a focus on visuals and theme. These short, visual presentations will be tightly timed. Discussion time will follow at the end of a cluster.
Create a Roundtable Discussion (1h 20min, up to 6 participants), which should relate to the Fault Lines congress theme or one of the sub-themes.
Hold a Studio or Experimental Workshop (1h 20min)! Your proposal must include a description of what participants will create, what techniques/ concepts will be employed, or what experiences will be provided. Please indicate the number of teaching artists and maximum number of participants.
Design a Theory-based, thematic Workshop (1h 20min) to encourage dialogue and debate on current and emerging issues and trends that contribute to advancing visual arts education, which should relate to the Fault Lines congress theme or one of the sub-themes. Ideally, provide an interactive and participatory format encouraging discussion, reflection, and creative problem solving.

Submission Guidelines
Prepare your abstract for your Presentation/ Panel submission/ Poster session/ Workshop/ Roundtable discussion using the following submission guidelines:
Your submission title should be 15 words maximum. Use sentence case, do not use all upper or lower case letters only, no special symbols. For your submission titles, capitalise the first letter of all major words (nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and some conjunctions). Use lowercase for prepositions (in, over, between, on, above, through), definite and indefinite articles (a, an, the), and conjunctions (and, or, but, for, nor).
Abstracts should be 250 words maximum. You must also provide a short description (maximum 50 words). Please use plain text for your abstract. Do NOT include any returns, blocked text, bullets, hyphens, footnotes, or bibliography. Please note that your Short Description (50 words maximum) will be used in the printed programme. The longer abstract (250 words maximum) of your presentation/ workshop will become the text for the final programme on the website.
Presenters and co-presenters cannot be added or changed after the deadline date for submissions.
All abstracts submitted to congress undergo blind review process by at least two anonymous reviewers. The reviewers are chosen from the scientific committee. The congress chairs will seek reviewers’ feedback before considering your submission for acceptance.

Registration fee for delegates and students includes access to:
- All scientific sessions
- Exhibition areas
- Welcome reception; coffee, tea and refreshments during the congress breaks, lunch, congress kit (program book & bag, name badge etc.)
* Low GDP Countries
Please note that the crucial factor for the reduced Low GDP fee is not the country of origin but the country of residence.
The only countries eligible for the low GDP (Gross Domestic Product) reduction are:
- African countries
- Asian countries (with following exceptions: Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong SAR, Israel, Japan, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Macau SAR, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, UAE)
- Latin American countries (exception: Bahamas)
- and the following countries in wider Europe:
Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, FYR of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Türkiye and Ukraine.
Delegates from all other countries need to register as Delegates from high GDP Countries.

Payment Methods
By Credit Card
VISA and MasterCard are the only credit cards accepted.
Please enter all relevant information on the registration form. It is also imperative that the name of the credit card holder is clearly stated if it differs from the name of the registrant.
By Wire Transfer
Bank charges are the responsibility of the participant and should be paid in addition to registration fees. The wire transfer must clearly state the name of the participant, as unidentified wire transfers cannot be processed. Participants are also requested to send a copy of the bank remittance receipt with their name to the InSEA 2023 secretariat.
